The Haunted Hustle
STATO - "South Temiskaming Active Travel Organization"
The Haunted Hustle is a Boston Qualifying Event that is now in it's 7th year!
How it all began: The 1st year with the completion of the STATO Trail along Lakeshore Road from Haileybury to New Liskeard, the Haunted Hustle started off with a 5km/10km/16km "fun" walk or run. With such a great turnout the first year we decided to make this into an official STATO Fundraiser to continue to help with the construction of the beautiful STATO Trail along Lake Temiskaming. On completion the trail will total 19.7kms to join the City of Temiskaming Shores. The 2nd year we added in a Half Marathon event, Online Registration and Championchip Timing to make it a great Northern Walk/Run and we haven't looked back since!
Each year has been a learning experience for the Haunted Hustle Committee, a small group with a lot of heart, now in our 7th year we have a Full Marathon Event "a Boston Qualifier", as well as The "Greyt" Relay - 4 Person Team Event for teens 8-12 and 13-18 years of age - to help promote physical activity to our youth. The Relay has been renamed in memory of Greyson Zubyck who we are sure would have been a great contender, you can learn more about Greyson's story at www.one-footforward.com
We have been extremely fortunate over the past years with our fantastic Sponsors, without them we couldn't make this event what it has grown into.
As STATO's slogan quotes, "From a Dream to a Reality 1km at a time", we are part way there with 10kms of the STATO Trail completed. The STATO Organization is a group of people who organize fundraisers to raise funds that go directly to the City of Temiskaming Shores to continue the construction of the STATO Trail. STATO has worked tirelessly to raise funds to build the trail through numerous fundraisers, such as a New Year's Gala, Fashion shows, Golf Tournaments, Fish Derbies, Amazng Race events and many others. With the help of the City of Temiskaming Shores we have also received government funding from the Minister of Health, Trillium Foundation and FedNor. Of course we cannot forget our local businesses that support STATO through all of these numerous events and also through their Corporate Donations, in total our group has raised 1.4 million dollars and our target is 3.5 million. The focus of the organization is the construction of a paved trail enabling all residents and visitors of Temiskaming Shores to enjoy the benefits of walking, cycling, jogging and roller blading across the City on a safe and secure route. A connector of safe active transportation would be used by citizens traveling to work each day, children going to sporting activities, and those wishing to engage in physical activity to better their health, while enjoying the vista of beautiful Lake Temiskaming. This would also encourage visitors to the area for the purpose of actively traveling this scenic route. Most people are pursuing a healthier life style and the "free" pathway will promote physical activity, be environmentally friendy and best of all is available to everyone
